Invitation to OpenAIS Symposium, May 23rd in Eindhoven

Over the past three years a consortium of leading European companies worked on the OpenAIS project, partly funded by the EU within the Horizon 2020 program, to address the challenges of the Internet of Lights.
The Challenge
Connecting the luminaires in buildings to the Internet offers many advantages and creates new areas of business opportunities. However, standard IoT protocols and components are not optimized for the particular requirements of a lighting (control) system in a professional building.
The OpenAIS Solution
The project developed technical solutions to fulfil the requirements of a professional lighting system, building as much as possible on existing and emerging IoT standards and components and adding only what was really necessary. The resulting OpenAIS system architecture enables advanced IP based lighting controls, and in addition the use of the lighting system as an infrastructure for other services.
The Benefits
OpenAIS aims at setting the leading IoT-standard for inclusion of lighting for professional applications, with a focus on office lighting. This will enable a transition from the closed and command oriented lighting control systems currently used, to an open and service oriented system architecture.
Openness and service orientation aims to create an eco-system of suppliers of interoperable components and a market for apps that exploit the lighting system to add value beyond the lighting function. Added value can for example be related to more efficient use of the building, reduction of carbon footprint and increased comfort and wellbeing. In addition, IoT will facilitate smooth and effective interaction of the lighting system with other functions in a building such as HVAC, security, room booking and occupancy. Extensibility and security of the system architecture are important aspects and is guaranteed.
The Symposium Program
At the symposium the OpenAIS consortium will present its project results and learnings, and will demonstrate the pilot implementation of the OpenAIS architecture in the industrial heritage building “De Witte Dame” in Eindhoven (NL).

Travel directions
From the central station (8 min walk)
In the station hall you take the exit towards the center (do not go towards the bus station). There is a tourist office right in front of the station; walk right in the direction of the Bijenkorf (green building). At the traffic lights, cross in the direction of 18 Septemberplein. Walk across this square to the white Light Tower of Philips. You are now on the corner of the 18 Septemberplein and the Emmasingel. Cross the Emmasingel and turn left. The white building on the right-hand side of the road, which you now walk past, is the Witte Dame. Follow the footpath towards the next traffic light. After successively Rabobank and the ANWB you will come to an public elevator outside number 28 (Fontys academy). Take the elevator to the 5th floor where you find ‘de Witte Dame Zaal’.
By car to the center of Eindhoven
By car from the direction of Amsterdam, 's Hertogenbosch or Utrecht - A2 in a southerly direction By car from the direction of The Hague, Rotterdam or Breda - A58 in an easterly direction By car from the direction of Maastricht or Venlo/Düsseldorf - A2 in a northerly direction:
Follow the signs "Randweg Eindhoven"
Take the exit "Centrum / Strijp"
Follow the signs "Centrum"
Follow the signs for "parking garage Mathildelaan". Drive past the police station and the parking garage until the next traffic lights / intersection. On your right is the Philips Lichttoren. Turn right onto Emmasingel. Turn right after about 100 meters into the parking garage "de Witte Dame". Take the exit furthest away from the entrance and walk straight across the square towards the Emmasingel. You will find a public elevator on the ground floor outside number 28 (Fontys academy). Take this elevator to the 5th floor where you find the ‘de Witte Dame Zaal’.
From Eindhoven Airport
Take bus 400 or 401 to the central station or take a taxi.
